Instagram was a learning curve for me, I found myself there about a year ago, trying to figure it out.  That little number sign in front of all my words smooshed together was very confusing.  Basically (and I know there are others that will explain it better) the # is a tag which connects you to a subject that is common to others, or a tag you use yourself.

From the beginning, I used #wordsoffaithtoliveby because it was meaningful to me.  Words can be powerful, filled with hope, motivation, encouragement and even smiles.

Before I even figured out Instagram, (well, that is a work in progress),  I wrote my first devotional journal entitled:  “Words of Faith to Live By.”  I know I’m not too original, but I absolutely love focusing on a word or phrase and dwelling on what it is saying to me.

Words of Faith to Live By

Perhaps now, more than ever, we need to refocus our minds.  Just this morning I was talking to my hubby about this, as we checked our morning’s feed on our IPAD.  The first thing we hear about is this virus that has invaded our minds, our homes, our electronic devices, and shaped how we live our lives. Even our devotionals that we listen to on-line are focused on the virus.  Oh, yeah, I’m writing about it too… again!!!

If you are like me, you are weary of this word, of this conversation.  Some days it almost feels like an invasion of privacy.

And yet it is very real.  I’m not suggesting burying my head in the sand, or reacting, or jumping on any theories.  I am so very thankful for the calm knowledgeable voice of Dr. Bonnie Henry and other medical officers who are trained, and knowledge based.  I pay attention to those headlines each day.  I pray for wisdom to decipher information.  We are finding a new normal, a way to live well, even with limitations.

What  I do know is that I need to refocus my mind on other words:  hope, courage, endurance, faithfulness.  When I write my Grace Notes, (see below) I try to pick a theme or word and go with that… it helps me to focus my thoughts, and I hope it brings encouragement for others to do the same.

We are in this together, as many say . . . but we all respond differently, and will have different challenges, be it economic, health, family dynamics and expectations, different points of view.  One word I think is paramount these days is love!  And as 1 Corinthians says, “Love is kind”.

Do you have a word for the year?  For the month?  For the week?  Share if you are able!  You can even tag it #wordsoffaithtoliveby

You could choose to print them on a rock, or in a journal, or inscribe them on a heart.  Or on Instagram.  🙂
