I try to do something creative most days for a number of reasons.

it brings me joy.  It is therapeutic.  It challenges me.  I belong to a couple of groups who inspire me in my writing and my art.

Yesterday the art prompt was “launch” which I didn’t quite know what to do with.  All I could think of was drawing a rocket ship that my grandsons might like.  So I did.

Using bolder colours than I usually do, I just had fun.  And it got me to thinking about my words for the year… “Be Brave”.

You would never catch me signing up for a trip to Mars or exploration of the moon.  Even flying summons all my courage.  You won’t find me jumping off a plane or even zip lining.  No thank you.  Even hurling myself down a mountain on a couple of sticks, well, skis, is enough to make me tremble.  I admire those who enjoy these things.

Call me a spectator, but I avoid activities with an adrenaline rush.  I much prefer a quieter life and gravitate to things that are safe.  I like comfortable.  I like cozy.

Today I was challenged on this as I was called to be brave.  To face a decision I was fearful about.

I reminded myself that being brave is different than being foolish.  It is always good to ask for advice from trusted experts, to pray for wisdom.  And then to boldly go forth. Well, more honestly, with some trepidation mixed with courage.

I continue to remember we don’t do this journey alone.  When we are called to be brave, we can also admit our fears, and remember the promises of the One who knows us well… and will be with us always.

I discovered this cool verse from Daniel 10:19, I hope it will encourage you as it has me this week: “And he said, ‘O man (or woman) greatly loved, fear not, peace be with you; be strong and of good courage.’ And as he spoke to me, I was strengthened and said, ‘Let my lord speak, for you have strengthened me.’”
