Advent pause

Advent pause

‘Tis the week before Advent

And while the world slows
and darkens

Things are ramping up.

Out of storage are emerging
plastic giant figures
popping up on lawns near by
Bright and colourful

Neighbors stringing lights
Wreaths placed on doors
Christmas is coming.

Today marks
Thanksgiving in the States
and I have had more
Black Friday ads in my inbox
For days now
Enticing me to
buy, buy, buy.

Not so many reminders
To be thankful.

Advent is an invitation
to slow down
while the world ramps up.

To be still.
To wait.

And yes,
finding my wreath
Is on my list for today.
My mind has Christmas lists
That I should really write down.

But can I make room
for the holy
can I listen
be still
prepare my heart?
