A day to celebrate women, March 8 is also a day I remember a special woman in my life, my Grandma Anne. It is her birthday today, it is 114 years since the year of her birth and 40 years since her graduation into heaven. (I hope I have those dates right!)
She always made me feel special because we shared the same birthday month, and I was her first grandchild. But I think she had a gift of making every person she was with feel special and loved.
I’ve written about her before, several times, and part of her story appears in my book “A Journey of Hope”, now out of print, but you can get it electronically from Amazon.
March 8 is a day to celebrate women. When I think of the characteristics that I admired about my grandmother, it would be courage, forgiveness, perseverance, hope, and a love for each person she met.
In my opinion, International Woman’s day is not a day to fight for rights, certainly not a day to bash men, not even a day to draw attention to ourselves. Rather, it’s a day to celebrate the feminine, the gifts, God-given, of being a female. For we too are created in the Image of God. Many of us are blessed to be mothers. Women use their gifts of intellect, intuition, creativity and bravery to make a difference in their homes, in their work and in the world.
I am grateful for the example of a grandmother who faced her life with courage, even in the midst of tragic circumstances. I am grateful for her prayers and her example.
I am grateful for the opportunities I’ve been given, to flourish and grow and learn.
Who is a woman of influence in your life? It is a good day to give thanks and to celebrate.
